Last week for "Beauty & The Beast"

Before Summer 2008--and climbing gas prices--slow down LaLaLand, we hope you'll take this last opportunity to see "Beauty & The Beast":a group exhibition which celebrates 5 years of OVERTONES and showcases 14 artists: CRAIG BUTLER, CHRISTOPHER CHINN, SUE COE, ROBBIE CONAL, VICTOR GASTELUM, SIMONE LOURENCO, CLAYTON MURDACH, STAS ORLOVSKI, AMY ROSS, MARGI SCHARFF, CAROLE SILVERSTEIN, NANCY SPERO and ALEXIS WEIDIG.
The last day to see "Beauty & The Beast" is Saturday, August 2nd, from 12-6pm, and for some of the pieces in the show, it truly is the very last opportunity to see them in Los Angeles.
OVERTONES will be on summer hiatus for the rest of August though we will be available by appointment: you are always welcome to give us a buzz and swing by on your way to the beach!

We will resume full speed ahead in September with a solo exhibition by one of our favorites, VICTOR GASTELUM, so stay tuned for updates coming your way early in September and save Saturday, September 20th on your calendars for Victor's opening party.

Happy Summer & see you at the gallery!

5 YEAR CELEBRATION: BEAUTY & THE BEAST, JUNE 28TH

OVERTONES will be celebrating our 5th B-day on Saturday, June 28th with a group exhibition entitled "Beauty & The Beast".
The show features artists who have been a part of our family since those early times when we were just learning how to walk and, for the occasion of this celebration, a few new names are added to the mix as well, to keep the family growing--together, they are our Lucky 14 and their art confirms our vision: to fuse beauty and political angst into one giant hope for a better world and one grand celebration of life! Come give it up for: CRAIG BUTLER, CHRISTOPHER CHINN, SUE COE, ROBBIE CONAL, VICTOR GASTELUM, SIMONE LOURENCO, CLAYTON MURDACH, STAS ORLOVSKI, AMY ROSS, MARGI SCHARFF, CAROLE SILVERSTEIN, NANCY SPERO and ALEXIS WEIDIG.

This time also marks a year since we've lost our dear friend and artist MARGI SCHARFF. Her art remains with us, and reminds us to continue striving towards being better Citizens of the World. We would like to take this opportunity to point you to 5min36sec of pure inspiration, in honor and memory of Margi and her legacy.

OVERTONES would also like to thank Christopher "Chuckles" Donham for, well, pretty much everything. And Alan Shaffer--for everything else. And a special big thanks to all of you--for supporting us and inspiring us in the last five years. We hope the next five will be even more exciting and we look forward to sharing them with you all.

Breathe, stretch, travel, smile, learn a new language...and come see some great art on Saturday, June 28th from 7 to 10pm. For those who can't make the festivities, the exhibit will be on view through August 2nd--stop by on your way to the beach and show off your swimsuit for Summer 2008.
See you at the gallery.

SIMONE LOURENCO / CHRIS CHINN / SAVE THE DATE!

This is the last week to catch SIMONE LOURENCO's beautiful exhibition "In Bloom"--don't miss the chance to see it. "In Bloom" was recommended in the June issue of ArtScene and it is truly deserving of a trip to the West Side: after seeing the show, you are likely to feel like bonding with Mother Nature anyway so the location couldn't be better--the grand Pacific Ocean is only a few minutes away...treat yourself! "In Bloom" is on view through this Saturday, June 21st, with gallery hours Wednesday through Saturday 12noon to 6pm [and by appointment of course].

Our March-April show: a solo exhibition of Christopher Chinn's work entitled "On the Row," received a fantastic review in the June issue of Artweek. Christopher's work can be seen at the gallery, in our "art lounge," and you are also always welcome to ask for more--we're happy to give you a taste of what's behind the usually closed storage doors: all you have to do is ask.

Last but not least: Save the Date--JUNE 28th, 7-10pm OVERTONES gallery is now 5 years old--time flies! We'll celebrate with a special group exhibition "Beauty and The Beast" featuring many of the artists we've worked with over the past 5 years, with a few new additions as well. Stay tuned for more details and a reminder for the opening party and our 5-year celebration that we'll toast on Saturday, June 28th from 7 to 10pm -- or better yet, come get the upcoming exhibition details in person and see Simone's wonderful art at the same time.
See you at the gallery.

CULVER CITY ART WALK, SATURDAY, MAY 31st

The Third Annual Culver City Art Walk is upon us and OVERTONES is pleased to take part. It might be a stretch to actually walk to our new location but the rewards of making it out on wheels will be plentiful: Simone Lourenco's art will be on view, together with a selection of many artists we admire and love. And our neighbor gallery, Cherry and Martin, will have an opening of their new exhibit just half a block east of us: that you can definitely walk to! Our hours for this arty occasion are extended: we'll be here from 12noon to 8pm so there's no excuse not to come by...and then mosey over to the MOCA party at the Culver Hotel for a cocktail!

Last week to see CHRISTOPHER CHINN's exhibit

Time flies in LaLaLand: we are entering the final week of CHRISTOPHER CHINN's solo exhibit "On The Row"--don't miss the opportunity to view the exhibit before the final day of the show, April 26th, rolls around. We'll be moving on quickly so, yes, this truly is the last opportunity to view an exhibit that has had an amazing and heartwarming response thus far. Gallery hours are Wednesday through Saturday, 12noon to 6pm, but as usual you can always call us if you need try to squeeze in a time that better fits your busy Angeleno schedules.
A few days later, we'll be springing back up with a special Master of Fine Arts Exhibition featuring the photography of LINDA JETT. This exhibit will truly be short--just a couple of weeks--so you'll really have to hustle to see it, but it will be worth the effort. Linda Jett'ss work will be on view beginning Wednesday, April 30th and will toast the artist on SATURDAY, MAY 3, 2008 from 7-10pm so save that date!
And, while we have you with your calendars out, the eve of SATURDAY, MAY 17th will be extremely special--mark that one too, but we'll keep you in suspense with the details until we come closer to it [and your attention span is not so strained].

Looking forward to seeing you at the gallery--now conveniently located on the way to the beach!

OPENING SAT., MARCH 15: CHRISTOPHER CHINN

Join us this SATURDAY, MARCH 15th from 7-10pm, for the second opening at our still-feeling-new location: CHRISTOPHER CHINN's solo exhibition will present a body of work inspired by the artist's encounters with the homeless population in downtown Los Angeles, where Chinn moved after completing his MFA studies at the USC Roski School of Fine Arts. Chinn's compelling portraits further the connections between us all, depicting, with palpable dignity, the real faces of homelessness, and bringing to our attention that it is not just the issue of the streets in urban dwellings, but one that we must all pay attention to and work together to solve. Christopher Chinn's exhibition, entitled "On the Row"will be on view through April 26, 2008.
